IS YOUR FAITH ATTRACTIVE?

And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold,  many tax collectors and [especially wicked] sinners came and sat [reclined] with Him and His disciples

Matthew 9:10 (The Amplified Bible)

This verse has always left me baffled!

Isn’t it interesting that Jesus,  the light of the world, the Most Holy, shone so bright he attracted those in darkness? Check out the bio of his table guests: tax collectors…especially wicked…sinners. Not the clique of ‘brothers and sisters’ you’d expect. That just messes up my theology I tell you. How did he pull it off?

Dear young believer, is your light ATTRACTIVE or REPULSIVE? What I’ve found is this (and I’d like you to read the next sentence slowly,  sip in the words).

When we genuinely  love people in our hearts and wish to help them see the truth (without condemning), they ‘instinctively’ pick up on it and are drawn to us. They may not exactly like all we have to say (they never liked all Jesus said), but they cannot stay away. The love within compels them to come around.

When we genuinely love people and wish to help them see the truth (without condemning), they instinctively pick up on it and are drawn to us.

The reverse is also true. When we do not genuinely love people,  when we don’t really care about them but merely tolerate their presence and find them somewhat ‘beneath our level’ because of our ‘spirituality’, even when we don’t say anything, even when we pretentiously show them respect and courtesy, they somehow ‘feel’ our distant heart and are subconsciously moved to stay away from us. Have you observed this too? People can sense when we really care and when we’re just putting up a show.

Could that be why so many of us hold so little influence for God amongst our unsaved friends?

That you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God…you shine as lights in the world…let your light so shine before people, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

Phillipians 2:15 & Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

The light of the world attracted sinners. Who are you attracting today?
