Day 4: The Great Paradox

Do you desire to live the truly blessed life that God rates as a breathtaking  success? This is the key. It’s counterintuitive, few understand it, and fewer still practice it.

Yesterday, we saw the need for each one to have a personal Joshua moment where a conscious decision is made to live out our fires irrespective of circumstances. Let’s add a fresh layer today.

The optimal conditions for any product are best specified by the manufacturer. Should you decide to use the product otherwise, the maker cannot be held liable for any damage either to the product or its user.

God manufactured YOUR life. And here’s what he has to say about how best to use it:

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you. Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just one grain; it never becomes more but lives by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.

John 12:24 (The Amplified Bible)

I’ll wait while you read that again. Look at the first sentence. That’s a guarantee from the manufacturer. Don’t you think he knows what He’s talking about?

Fall…die…those are two experiences we avoid, but that’s how the truly successful life (in God’s opinion!) is born. That’s how we discover and deploy our fires. The most amazing details of your life are revealed as you shift your focus from self gratification to serving in some way.

This is the problem. We assume that doing things our way will bring the fuller life. But the manufacturer says otherwise. He says the way to find it is to give  it up.

And it doesn’t have to be on philanthropic endeavour or some humanitarian expedition to some impoverished land. This is way beyond that. Right where you are, be it an air-conditioned top floor office or a rowdy classroom, you CAN do this.

It’s a question of who and what drives your life daily. What makes you do what you do? What drives you? When you set out everyday, who are you living for?

WHAT’S DRIVING YOUR LIFE TODAY?

Let’s get practical. Flash back over last month. How much of your life would you say was invested in discovering, developing and deploying your God-given fire?

If you can’t find much to point to, don’t you think this is a great time to reevaluate the summation of your existence? Wouldn’t you love to be the grain of wheat that “produces many others and yields a rich harvest”?

Life is not about self. The quest to discover and deploy our fire is not just about us. This is not about pleasing yourself or seeking to prove a point. The more you try to please yourself, the less you’ll be pleased. That is the great paradox – in dying, we find true life.

It’s Day 4 on our journey together and we’ve not yet mentioned how to spot your spark or develop it. That’s a deliberate move. Discovering and deploying your fire is not just about what you do, but what you know; the beliefs and mental frames that undergird the external activities.

So what will you do? Are you willing to die? Are you ready to trust His counterintuitive wisdom? There’s just one thing I know- no one who did it God’s way ever regretted.
