We all hate spoilers.

When a new season/episode of your favorite TV show is released, the last person you want to see is that overzealous friend who somehow got their hands on the series before everyone else, binge watched the whole thing and now just finds pure joy in ruining it for everyone else by spilling all the juice.

Some of us even go as far a deliberately avoiding contact with them until we get to watch the episode for ourselves (don’t you just hate how the really cruel ones love chasing you around as you scream, hands over your ears so you wouldn’t hear a thing they say?). We want to go through the suspense, the emotions without any prior knowledge of how it all ends. Watching the show when you already know the outcome isn’t just as exciting, right? It’s true- when it comes to our beloved TV shows, we hate spoilers.

But that’s where it ends- movies and shows.

In the real world, its different. We want the opposite.

As young people, we spend considerable chunks of time thinking about our future and trying to make sense of how all the happenings around us today fit into our dream life. We want to see around the bend and find confident answers to deepest questions in our hearts. Will my life count for something? Will it all be worth it in the end? Am I heading in the right direction? What about my potential- will I live up to the things I know I’m capable of? Will these struggles end?

While we want the thrill of living a life that’s truly ‘alive’, a part of us still craves the reassurance that it will end well, that we won’t end up regretting how we spent the gift of youth. In essence, when it comes to our lives, maybe we really don’t mind a few spoilers.

God knows this- He understands our hearts. That’s why He let us in on how ‘all this’ can turn out if we do it his way. Here are a few of those spoilers sprinkled across His love letter to us. Let these thoughts compel confidence within as you read them.

Worried about your future? Let this sink in.

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out- plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

And we KNOW that God causes EVERYTHING to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I (the Lord) will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

Struggling with a habit? This is for you:

For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy

JUDE 1:24

Having a hard time?

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Now thanks be unto God, which ALWAYS causeth us to triumph in Christ,…

But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.
He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine.

PSALMS 33:18-19

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

1 PETER 5:10

I’m sure you get the idea. We aren’t left in the dark, to grope and guess about our lives. He’s given us  a preview, ‘spoilers’ if you will, to steady our souls and keep us calm when everything seems to be going out of control.

So be confident. God’s got you covered.

And just as you can still follow your favourite TV show even after your friend tried to ruin it with a spoiler, you can follow on with the echoes of God’s promises having gone ahead to ruin every anxiety, doubt and fear about what tomorrow holds.

Be at peace. We peeked at the last page. Guess what? You win!
